Here’s something interesting I noticed yesterday:

Google is personalizing search with the last visit to a siteThis isn’t appearing on every search, but here and there Google is telling me how many times I’ve visited a site and when the last visit was.  They are leaning more heavily all the time on personalized search results, is this the next step?

Here’s something else to think about: while I think this is really cool, we probably all know a Google conspiracy theorist who will be totally freaked out by this reminder that they are watching us all the time. The real question then becomes why bother putting it on there? Historically Google has shown extreme jealously with every pixel of the SERP. This seems like something that would only occasionally be really useful, so why tempt the conspiracy crowd?

Is it just an experiment? What use do you see for that information aside from the fact that it’s mildly interesting?
