Citations are an important part of your local SEO. They help search engines like Google or Bing verify that your business actually exists and is where you say it is. What is a citation though? Most of us will be familiar with the idea of citations when it comes to school papers. The citations we are talking about here are not those. A citation is a mention of your business name, address and phone number on a site, other than your own. Citations help place you at your location, and as part of a community. A citation could be found on a partners website, on a yellowpages directory, an industry site and chamber of commerce site.

Businesses with more citations will generally rank better than businesses with fewer. There a a couple different factors that go into citations that I will go over in another post. But, basically what you need to know is, make sure your name, address and phone number can be found, and in a lot of different places. If you try doing this yourself make sure you post the information as consistently as possible. Variations, even small ones, can affect how the search engines see it. Of course if you don’t want to deal with this yourself you can always have us do it for you.
