Have you ever been looking over your Google Analytics and saw a spike out of nowhere in your all traffic?
Typically when something like this happens its due to ghost spam. If you are unsure you can find out what type of traffic is is by looking at your analytics on the day it happened it would be under Referral Traffic. What is happening is a robot crawler is going over your site and Google Analytics is picking it up. Luckily Google has made it very easy to filter this type of traffic out.
Steps:
- Go into your Analytic account under Filter.
- Create a Filter name.
- Do a Custom Filter (Exclude).
- Filter by Request URL
- Type in the Filter URL
